To decongest queues at BRT bus stops, ease the challenges Lagosians face in obtaining tickets and overhaul transportation structure, the Lagos State government is set to introduce the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) to enhance transit system in the state.

The Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Abiodun Dabiri made this known yesterday in Lagos during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Apapa branch.

Dabiri assured that the revolutionary appproach would transform transportation in the state and reduce stress in movement for Lagosians.

He said the state would install electronic notice boards at all bus stops to show movement of the buses on the transit system.He said: “ With this system, you can know when the next bus will arrive and you can buy your ticket online”.

Dabiri also revealed that they would also introduce Electronic ticketing that passengers would use to electronically pay bus fares by touching the card to system installed on every buses.

He said this would reduce stress, correct lapses in the system and eliminate the slow pace of the ticketing process.The LAMATA boss also said the state would soon implement bus reform to ensure all feeder roads in the state are properly managed to decongest traffic in the state.

He said soon there would be buses to take people from their immediate locations to bus stops for onward journey to their respective destinations. “This will reduce stress, promote fair road usage, ensure vehicles last longer and reduce traffic on our high ways”.
