Nutritionist have claimed that consuming brew made from green coffee bean could help one lose weight as it contains fat-fighting compounds.

According to a study, green coffee bean helps patients lose three times more weight than a regular instant coffee.

The Norwegian study, which was published more than a decade ago, explored the benefits of green coffee bean extract.

Thirty overweight individuals were followed over 12 weeks for the trial, published in The Journal of International Medical Research.

Half of them consumed regular coffee, while the rest was an instant coffee enriched with 200mg of green coffee bean extract.

Both groups were instructed not to change their diet or exercise habits by the team at Oslo’s ETC Research and Development.

In the study, it was found that the group taking the instant coffee with green coffee bean extracts lost 11lbs 14oz (5.4kg), on average.

This was three times more than the group who consumed plain instant coffee, who lost 3lbs 12 oz (1.7kg), on average.
Meanwhile, the Nutritional Director for Healthista, Rick Hay said green coffee bean extract is a natural stimulant that is less processed version of coffee that contains less caffeine than regular coffee.

He noted that the coffee beans are loaded with antioxidants and chlorogenic acid, which can also boost the immune system because due to the presence antioxidant polyphenols in it.

As much as it helps with weight loss, Hay said the bean extract can also aid with energy production and blood circulation.

He, however, said that the recommended dosage is between 200-400mg of green coffee bean powder daily because of its caffeine content.
