The Permanent Secretary of the Imo State Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General, Mrs. Elma Eluwa, has inaugurated two task forces to fastrack criminal cases and recover government assets.

While the Director of Public Prosecution, Monday Uwasomba, is heading the task force on decongestion of cases, that of Recovery of state government’s assets is chaired by Mrs. Edith Aguta. Inaugurating the panels last Tuesday, Eluma urged them to discharge their duties with diligence, pointing out that the state government was worried by the issues that led to their inauguration.

She said they were chosen on merit, reminding them that the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Paschal Nnadi, had conducted gaol inspections in Owerri and Okigwe Prisons.

As terms of reference to the task force on decongestion of cases, she directed that they should verify all criminal case files; examine procedures for filing of information and cases and write letters of discharge if there is no evidence and proffer legal advise among others.

She also directed the task force on recovery of government assets to ensure that the state government owned assets were recovered without fear or favour.

Both Uwasonmba and Aguta promised to discharge duties creditably.
