As part of efforts aimed at promoting transparency in governance, the International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos would be holding a media tweet conference on the theme: The use of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by media and civil society on Thursday, April 14.

This second tweet-a-thon with hashtag #Media4transparency is an activity under a Media Transparency Watch project being implemented by the International Press Centre (IPC) with the funding support of the United States Consulate General in Lagos.

The Lead Speaker at the event will be Olukayode Majekodunmi, Deputy Executive Director, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). Also expected to speak at the event is the Art/Media Editor of The Guardian, Mr. Kabir Alabi Garba.

The tweet conference is normally attended by an audience of about forty media professionals and civil society activists while there is live participation by others through various social media channels.

The first of such conference took place in January this year under the theme, International Best Practices in the role of the media in transparency with the Deputy Director of the US Consulate in Lagos, Mr. Frank Sellin serving as the lead speaker.

The objective of the event is to promote media and public dialogue on the imperative of transparency, accountability and anti-corruption for good governance in Nigeria and as well enrich the content of media reports on transparency issues, among others.

The program will be interactive as there would be a question and answer session by the participants made up of select audience from the media, civil society groups and academics, physically present as well as others following on twitter and other social media channels.
