Join professional bodies for career growth expert tells managers

President, International Professional Managers Association (IPMA), UK-Nigeria Forum, Dr. Chinedun Igbokwe, has stressed the need for managers to join professional associations to enhance their career growth.

Igbokwe listed the benefits of professional bodies to include partnership programmes, academic collaborations and access to grants.

He spoke at the induction ceremony for new members of the association, which has its headquarters in the United Kingdom.

To enhance the business and professional interest of members, Igbokwe disclosed that the IPMA-UK Council has approved the grants of various partnership and collaboration opportunities for members to explore and enhance their businesses.

He stated that to promote career growth, IPMA-UK has established collaborations with several accredited universities in Africa and Europe for top-up Bachelors, as well as advanced placement Masters and Doctorate Degree programmes.

Speaking, Head, Africa Regional Office of IPMA, Prof Olufeyisan Feyi-Sobanjo tasked managers to be upright at all times.

He listed other attributes of professional managers to include upholding society’s interest and loyalty organisation, respect for the reputation of other corporate organistions, respect for the confidentiality of official information, as well as regular training and retraining.

Chairman of IPMA-UK, Prof. Allan Sensicle, also emphasised the need for constant training and retraining for managers to be abreast of activities and not be left behind in the scheme of things.

He added that understudying the competition’s plans and strategies was not out of place for managers, as long as they do not do so damage the reputation of other professionals.

During the induction, members, senior members and associate members were certified, while fellows and distinguished honorary fellows of the association received certifications.

The ceremony was attended by notable members of the association, including Ghana’s Member of Parliament and Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Awuah and Nigeria’s Minister of State, Trade, Industry and Investment, Aisha Abubakar, who was represented by a special assistant.
