The Kebbi State government has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Procter and Gamble (P&G), a leading consumer goods company in Nigeria, with the aim of empowering and training women in the state.

Singing the MOU at the weekend, the Kebbi State governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu Abubakar, said the partnership would support the Kebbi women entrepreneurs project, adding that his administration was committed to ensuring that women are given the right boost to start and maintain businesses and contribute to the economic growth of the state.

“Having an organisation that will support us like this is admirable, and women will be self-reliant,” he added.

In her remark, the wife of the governor, Mrs Zainab Bagudu, commended the efforts of the government and the company for signing the MOU, adding that the partnership would yield good results not just for the women but also for the society.

“I am very passionate about training and empowering women because I understand the huge contributions that women can make in the society. However, I cannot do it alone and that is why I am grateful to have the support of a corporate organisation like P&G lending resources to support me in the cause of women empowerment,” she said.

Responding, the Director of Government Relations for Africa of P&G, Mrs Temitope llumeyi, said the partnership is in line with the company’s commitments to impact lives through sustainable investments and remove barriers to women’s economic empowerment.

“We are committed to empowering women to live to their fullest potential. Deepening economic equality and inclusive growth can only make our world stronger. Through our company and brand impact programme, we are helping to make gender and economic equality achievable, and when a women is empowered, her family is empowered and by extension, the society is empowered,” she said.
