THE Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, said it is set to tackle problems and challenges that may likely face the future of the legal profession in this year’s law week event.

Some of the challenges include those posed by the infiltration of quacks and other practitioners to lawyers and the justice sector.

Addressing journalists in the Foyer of the Lagos High Court, Igbosere, the Law Week Committee Chairman, Mrs. Tolani Edu-Adeola, in company of the state chairman, Alex Muoka and other committee members said the event will hold between June 24 and 26, 2015 at the MUSON Centre.

“It will kick-off with a keynote address on the topic: “The Future of the Legal Profession: Protection from Exploitation.” Over thirty speakers, panelists and discussants comprising the cream of Nigeria’s legal profession are billed to attend the event.

“Also, this year’s Law Week promises to be intellectually stimulating and professionally rewarding and the repertoire of break-out sessions are as encompassing as the topics, which will include, sessions on Labour Law, Insolvency Law, Capital Market Practice, Tax Law and ADR/Simulation”, she said.

According to her, some ‘unusual’ practice areas will be added to this rich collection, namely Medical Law, Media and Sport Law.

She explained that the often charged Bar/Bench Forum is also billed to be as explosive as ever, with the topic as “The Future of the Legal Profession in the 21st Century”, adding that several Heads of Court and erudite lawyers have confirmed to be in attendance.

Muoka added that participants are bound to have full value for money, as they have the opportunity to attend all the break-out sessions.

His words: “The forthcoming Law Week also promises loads of fun and merriment. The Law Week is also organizing an invitation-only high-profile Law Week Dinner in honour of former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), at the prestigious City Hall as part of the programme. While another invitation-only Elders’ Nite to appreciate our highly supportive and active Bar Elders holds at a palatial Ikoyi location.

“The high-octave all-comers Variety Nite/Karaoke/Cocktail After Party holds on Friday, June 26 to wrap-up the Law Week”.
