Police arraign driver for causing obstruction on highway

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 36- year-old driver, Jimoh Abraham, in a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly causing traffic obstruction along Gwarimpa-Banex Road in the FCT.

Abraham who resides at Plot 420, Ebazanto Extension, Kubwa, Abuja was arraigned on a one-count charge of causing obstruction.

The prosecutor, Insp. Friday Idi told the court that the accused on June 4 stopped his Toyota Sienna at the middle of Gwarimpa-Banex expressway.

Friday said by his action, the accused caused a heavy traffic jam for other motorists.
Idi said that the accused was confronted by ASP Mary Pam, attached to Mobile Police Office Abuja, who was on routine traffic checks.

He said the accused defied the directive of the police officer who entered the vehicle and directed him to go to police station.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused diverted to another destination but was arrested.
Abraham however pleaded not guilty and the Judge, Mallam Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 and a surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Aug. 26 for further hearing.
