Men jailed over illicit drug deal

The men, Alausa Matthew, 21 and Tunde Akinbunu, 50 were sentenced to six months by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke after they had pleaded guilty to a two count charge bordering on the offence.

The judge said: “The two convicts are hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment each with effect from the date of their arrest. All drug exhibits to be destroyed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) if there is no appeal against this judgment within the time allowed by law.”

The judge while passing the sentence condemned the second accused person who at his age does not have morals to pass to his children and the society at large.

The court was also of the view that they ought to have learnt the lesson that a life of crime does not pay, having been in detention since their date of arrest and urged them to be better and useful citizens.

According to the NDLEA prosecutor, Orji Kalu, both convicts on or about January 16, 2015 at Itire in Surulere, Lagos without lawful authority dealt in 5.3 grammes of Cocaine, a narcotic drug contrary to and punishable under section 11 ( c) of the, NDLEA Act, Cap N30 laws of the Federal of Nigeria, 2004.
