GOVERNOR Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state has urged his Ebonyi and Rivers counterparts, Chief David Umahi and Barrister Nyesom Wike to rev up their performances now that the burden of litigation has been lifted off them.

Besides, Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has felicitated with the two saying it was now an opportunity for them to run an inclusive government.

The elections of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Governors were on Wednesday affirmed by the Supreme Court following protracted cases against their initial victory at the polls.

Mimiko, in a statement issued by his In his Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, Dr. Mimiko, urged them to compensate the electorate who stood by them in the course of the courts proceedings with exemplary performances, stressing that now was the time to settle down to work and rev up their performances as the burden of litigation has finally been lifted.

“May I on behalf of the people and government of Ondo State congratulate my brother governors, Barrister Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Chief David Umahi on your well-deserved victories in post-election litigation.

“The judgments affirm the votes you had in the elections and attest to the love your citizens have for you. Their steadfastness through the process of adjudication is a sign of their confidence in your abilities to deliver on your campaign promises. You must therefore gird your loins and rev up your machinery of governance to meet their yearnings and expectations,” Mimiko said.

Mimiko who also doubles as the PDP Governor’s Forum chairman said post-electoral dispute, though sometimes a drag on the speed of performance, serves as means of strengthening the victor for the task of governance.

Similarly, Delta State Governor, congratulated Governors Wike and Umahi on their electoral victory at the Supreme Court and urged them to reciprocate the gesture by running an all inclusive government.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa, said that by this judgment, the apex court has lifted a burden off the shoulders of the people of Rivers and Ebonyi States.

“Rivers State, her friends and neighbours waited with baited breath for this favourable judgment. Your ‘long walk’ to victory must not be taken for granted. You must reward the state with open, transparent and purposeful leadership. Rivers people can’t settle for less” Okowa noted.

However, he called on the All Progressive Congress (APC)’s candidate, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, to demonstrate maturity by appealing to his supporters to take the judgment in good faith. This, the Governor said, would provide even ground that would accelerate development in the state.

The judgment of the apex court on the cases of Governors Wike and Umahi is a victory for our democracy and a reaffirmation of the divine mandate freely given to them by the people of both states and commended the Apex court for ensuring the sanctity of the people’s mandate.

“The ruling of the Supreme Court will go a long way in restoring the hope and confidence of the Nigerian people on the sanctity of the judiciary,” he added.

Also yesterday, Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Leonard Ogor applauded the court’s verdicts saying it was a reminder on the need to amend the Electoral Act over card reader.

Said he: “There is a strong need for us to appreciate the Supreme Court which is now like the last bus stop in all judicial process. It is something that I think we need to congratulate the governor for coming out successfully in this trial that the tribunal and the Court of Appeal ruled against him. Nevertheless I think that it goes a long way to show clearly that Card Reader is not the finality viz a vis the provisions of the Electoral Act.
