NASFAT equips journalists, missionaries with professional skills
The Nasrul-Lahi-Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) last week hosted a five-day training workshop for media practitioners, missionaries, youth leaders and secretaries of Islamic organizations in media skills.
The workshop organized by the Department of Mass Communication of Fountain University, Osun State was themed: “Diffusing professional media skills to strengthen the deen.”
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Bashir Adebayo, who was represented by Dean, College of Management and Social Science of the University, Professor Abdulateef Usman, said, the media can help in a long way to redeem the poor perception against Islam, adding that Islam is a religion of peace and media should be at the vanguard of propagating Islam.
Deputy Chief Missioner, NASFAT, Alhaji Abdul Azeez Onike, emphasized on the quality of education rendered in the institution in terms of academics, morals and values.
He said the quality education is paramount for a Muslims to contribute immensely to the growth of the ailing economy.
Onike enjoined the media practitioners and parents to give their children qualitative education in other to position the young Muslims as future leaders.
The Public Relation officers of NASFAT, Alhaji Banji Busari, appreciated the participants and promised to always equip them with necessary information as at when due.
He urged all participants to make use of knowledge acquire from the programme judiciously in their relative fields.
Head of Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Ridwan Adeyemi, said, “ the media is a powerful instrument and there is need for it to clear Islam of conspiracy”.
He emphasized on the need for an Islamic media. Stressing further “it is a team work, it cannot be run by individual, it is a huge project which is capital intensive but he so much believe in it possibility.”
Participants were trained both theoretical and practical aspect of media including Radio and Television presentation, effective speech and public speaking, public relation and advertising, effective media management and social media.
