Police arraign five men for alleged invasion, felony

In his ruling, the presiding Magistate, Mr. W. B. Balogun, said he will only grant the third defendant, Ademiluyi bail on self-recognisance, because he is a legal practitioner who can easily be reached if he jumps bail.

Five men were arraigned by the police before a Lagos High Court, Igbosere over offences bordering on conspiracy, unlawful invasion and felony. Those arraigned are Bosun Sosanya, the Deputy Managing Director of Halogen Security Limited, Tayo Soetan, Chairman of Cashlink Finances Service Limited, a lawyer, Mr. Adebayo Ademiliyi and the duo of Friday Alika and Abubakar Audu, who are said to be security operatives.

In his ruling, the presiding Magistate, Mr. W. B. Balogun, said he will only grant the third defendant, Ademiluyi bail on self-recognisance, because he is a legal practitioner who can easily be reached if he jumps bail.

He ordered that the other four accused persons be remanded in Prison’s custody pending when they fulfill their bail conditions. The Magistrate also ordered the lawyer to write letter and attached copy of his complimentary card and passport photograph.

The Magistrate admitted other defendants to bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned till April 20 for trial.

Police in a charge marked G/13/2017, alleged that all the five defendants had sometimes on December 5, 2015, conspired among themselves to commit a felony by forcibly entering into the office of the Managing Director of 1004 Estate Limited, Mr. Samuel Ukpong, and took over the management of the Estate from him, and disrupt the smooth administration of the Estate.

The police also stated that the defendants and others at large, with an intent to cause a breakdown of law and order and conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace, by forcibly entering Ukpong’s office.
