Though a football event, the Glo CAF Award is know for its entertainment offerings, which has become a sort of tradition. This year, the award ceremony sponsored by Globaccom Nigeria, paraded some of the best musicians from different parts of the continent, with Glo Ambassadors taking the centre stage.

Anchored by Robert Marawa of Super Sports and Juliet Ibrahim, the night of honour for footballers, saw leading African artistes wow the audience at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, as they teamed up in pairs to perform at the gala night of the 2015 Glo-CAF Awards, thus bringing to life the theme of the event, Win as One.

One after the other, the musicians, who performed on the big stage showcased both African African unity and diversity, doing musical collabos that blended the past with the present present and flaunted popular African dance moves in their assorted varieties. Indeed, it was a celebration of African culture and rhythm.

The enchanting evening began with the Nigerian national anthem by velvet-voiced Ego Ogbaru, who was backed-up by the guitar artistry of King Sunny Ade and Bez Idakula.

However, the first main act of the evening was a fusion of Ghana’s sensational Shatta Wale and Nigeria’s Korede Bello, which gave the gala a super start. The duet of Black Mambazo and Ego serenaded the event with a sublime acapella, while the guests relished the rich dinner served at the event.

Further into the event, Morocco’s Ahmed Soultan teamed up with Di’ja Blell from Nigeria to the delight of the audience, followed by the electrifying performance of Bez and King Sunny Ade in a jazzy version of Stupid song. You need to see KSA and Bez engage in a guitar trick that earned them resounding rounds of applause from the excited audience.

The musical collaborations continued with the Afro pop performance by the legendary Salif Keita from Mali supported by Nigeria’s Omawumi Megbele in an invocation to Africa, Africa o!

The duo of Kach and D’Banj pushed the fun to the next level with their performance of Top of the World and his brand new song, Emergency, which he premiered at the show. Ageless Awilo Longomba and Flavour took the event to its climax as they evoked some African spiritualism.

The wonderful event was wrapped up with the performance of Globacom’s new anthem by all the artistes, while the winners all came on stage to demonstrate the oneness canvassed by the theme.

Guests described the Glo CAF awards as world-class in scope, dimension and attendance. A sports journalist, Mr. Segun Ogunjimi popularly called “Obey Ibadan” marveled at the beautiful fusion of music and football across the African continent and the harmonious way the performances were combined.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Amadu Pinnick, commended Globacom for hosting the Glo-CAF Awards again in Abuja. According to him,it afforded guests the opportunity to witness first hand the beauty of Nigeria’s capital city, thus boosting tourism in the country.

Also, Senator and former minister, Sanusi Dagash, said Globacom’s Chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga Jr., had not only supported sports in the country but had also helped in putting Nigeria on the developmental pedestal. He noted that Globacom’s Glo 1 international submarine cable was a feat capable of providing much needed Internet bandwidth for economic prosperity in West Africa.
