The Appeal Court, Akure has granted leave to the 18 local government chairmen sacked by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to appeal their dissolution as well as the judgment of the lower court on the matter.

The Appeal Court, Akure has granted leave to the 18 local government chairmen sacked by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to appeal their dissolution as well as the judgment of the lower court on the matter.

The court, sitting at the weekend, gave the former council chairmen, who were elected to office in March 2016, seven days to start the processes of appealing the decision of the state high court that removed them from office in 2017.

The State High Court dissolved the ex-chairmen and councilors, who were elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (Party) during the administration of former Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

Meanwhile, the court dismissed a relief sought by the PDP, seeking to stop the conduct of upcoming local government elections by the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.

The three-man panel, presided over by Justice Obande Ogbuinya, hinged its decision on the basis that it was premature to grant the interlocutory injunction when such relief had already been sought in the substantive case.
