Information management crucial in healthcare delivery, says LUTH’s CMD

Chief Medical Director (CMD), Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Prof. Chris Bode has said that information management is very essential in healthcare delivery because it connects and highlights data to provide information that is critical to the health care industry.

He made the call during the matriculation ceremony of the School of Health Information Management (SHIM) where he enjoined the students to be steadfast and allow the school to make maximum impact in them.

The school of Health Information Management is recognised for innovations in teachings and research and in promoting ethical leadership, entrepreneurship, social and environmental justice. The school is also charged to educate and empower students and community in other to transform lives.

Bode, who was represented by Prof. Olufemi Fasanmade, in his remarks said that he is happy to grace the ceremony and quite pleased to welcome everyone as it marks this year’s matriculation ceremony.

The CMD added: “As this marks the beginning of new dawn in your history,this institution has come of age. It is also a renowned citadel of learning in SHIM. SHIM is an important member of healthcare system and it is the professionals that are responsible for managing all the health information which is constituent in medicalempirical administrative ethical and legal requirement.”

Bode added that without the SHIM, verylittle can be done properly and also proper documentation means a lot to healthcare system.“In case you do not know SHIM is the oldest profession. They collect different kinds of data from variety of sources and monitor the integrity of the information to ensure that appropriate access is available to the present and the future.They also manage the analysisand use the data in planning,” said the Director.

He pledged that LUTH will do everything possible to help the school actualise its visions and it includes accreditation of the programme, provision of material resources and the hospital management will continue to do more and ensure that the glorious name of the school is maintained.

Bode urged the students to be focused and steadfast in their purist of knowledge in HIM and to allow the school make a maximum impact on their professional training.

Principal school of HIM Mr. Taiwo Olofinluyi in his own remark said that the field is the fastest growing profession in Nigeria and a career choice at the exciting intersection of healthcare, law, and management and information technology.
