The Perfect One

Introduction: Last week, we looked at God as the Special One in mercy, holiness and wrath. Today, we will look at Him as the Perfect One. He would not have asked us to be perfect, if perfection is unachievable. By His grace you will be perfect.

Perfect In Love

God is perfect in love, Mt.5: 48; 1 Jn.4: 8. Mankind is a creation of perfect love, Gen.1: 26-29; Gen.2: 7-15. His perfect love also locked out man, when he fell into sin in the Garden of Eden, Gen.3: 8-9; Gen.2: 7-15. Though He punished the sinners and Satan, yet, out of His perfect love, the salvation plan and covering of shame and nakedness was simultaneously conceived, Gen.3: 13-19. This perfect love is a covenant.

A covenant made and sealed in perfect love. This is why the disobedience, wickedness and persistent sin of Israel, God’s chosen race, could not destroy the covenant of love in creation Deut.7: 8. He clearly demonstrated His perfect love. Even when we were dead in sin, Jesus died so we can live, Eph.2: 4-5. This special love gives a special Name reserved for those who know Him. They are called sons of God, 1 Jn.3: 1. The perfect God in love will not hesitate to discipline any erring child when necessary, Heb.12: 6-11; Prov.3: 11-12 – especially when the child remains unrepentant and barren, Jn.15: 2; Rev.3: 19.

Perfect In Word

God’s word is perfect and true and can convert even the hardest of souls, thus making wise the simple and bringing joy to every heart, Ps.19: 7-8; Rom.7: 12. The word of God is forever settled in Heaven, Ps.119: 89 – and likened to a devouring flame, fire, a crushing hammer, a defensive weapon and a probing instrument or discerner of truth and justice, Jer.5: 14; Jer.23: 29; Eph.6: 17; Heb.4: 12. It is the only approved food for healthy spiritual growth, 1 Pt.2: 2; Deut.11: 19. It gives continuous spiritual cleansing and blessing, Ps.119: 9, 11; Ps.1: 1-6; 1 Pt.1: 22; Jn.17: 17. This perfect word is absolutely sure and reliable, Eze.12: 25; Ps.117: 7.

Conclusion

If God is so perfect in His love and His word, it will be extremely unwise and dangerous to trust anything else, Mic.7: 5-7. The Holy Ghost is ready today to help you pray and to illuminate your understanding of the Lord’s way. Hide His word in your heart that you might not sin against him. Hebrews 12:6-8 – Only illegitimate children resist the discipline of the Father. You will be and remain a special child of the Most High forever in the mighty name of Jesus.
