UAC Goodness League exposes Lagos students to effective learning

Worried by the poor quality of education delivery in the country, members of UAC Nigeria PLC, under “UAC Goodness League,” a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the firm, have offered free classes to Lagos secondary school students.

The free weekend classes, which focuses on two key areas, the weekend classes and career and guidance counseling sessions, addresses the hard and soft issues in the educational sector. The classes are targeted at senior secondary school III (SSS3) students and it holds mostly during the summer holiday period.

The volunteers, which comprises of UAC members of staff not only expose the students to quality teaching and instructions, but also provide counselling to participants. The classes follow strict guidelines and curricular of the state government and are supervised and monitored by representatives of the Lagos State Government Education Districts.

The subjects taught during the period include career guidance and counselling, English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Accounts and Government.

Executive Director, Corporate Services, UAC, Nigeria Plc, Mr. Joe Dada, while speaking during the closing ceremony of the “2017 Free Weekend Classes,” at Government Senior College, Agege, said the programme was borne out of the need to bring into greater focus the critical role education plays in the transformation of a nation.

According to him, “10 years ago, we were worried by the series of lamentations about students poor performance in external examinations. Our company established the UAC Goodness League as part of our CSR programmes, and also as part of effort to supplement government’s struggle in addressing the challenges of the sector. We are fully aware of the role of quality education delivery to the progress of every nation and so this programmes is our modest contribution to joining forces with other stakeholders in uplifting the standards of education in Nigeria.
