The Abuja Chapter of University of Ibadan (UI) Alumni Association (UIAA), has condemned the attack on former vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Olufemi Adebisi Bamiro, by unknown gunmen.

The association described the incident as barbaric, crude and heinous, which must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.

In a statement jointly signed by its chairman and secretary, Ismail Alasa, and Chinasa Okechukwu, the association deplored the attack on Bamiro, wondering why a person who has contributed so much to the development of the country would be so treated.

It tasked the police to move swiftly and apprehend the culprits, so as to discourage other such characters.

“UIAA Abuja is deeply saddened by this attack and strongly affirm that these continuous acts of violent attacks on innocent Nigerians, no matter the motives behind them are completely unacceptable if we must make progress as a country.

“Moreover, Prof. Bamiro is a renowned Nigerian academic, who has served this country meritoriously in several capacities, and has continued to do so. His attack is therefore unfounded, and an attempt to cut short the life of a seasoned scholar, who has continued to contribute to the development of Nigeria.
