UNIABUJA, NASRDA collaborate to boost food security
The University of Abuja and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), are to collaborate towards developing weather early warning system that would guide agricultural production in the country.
Director General of NASRDA, Professor Saidu Mohammed, who disclosed this at a joint MoU discussion session by officials of the university and NASRDA at the main campus of the university, said that the collaboration was part of efforts to boost the country’s food security.
He said the early warning system when fully developed would predict with high degree of accuracy, farm produce outputs across the country, which was desirable for planning purpose in the nation’s quest for food self-sufficiency.
Mohammed said that NASRDA, in conjunction with the Faculty of Agriculture of UNIABUJA would work on the early warning system, with farmers as the main beneficiaries of the technology and national food security as the overall objective.
The director general said that NASRDA was already collaborating on other researches with lecturers at the school, which should place them in positions where they would benefit from recent developments in space research technology and boost their capacities to train the trainers on space technology.
