Your social credibility can get you a loan

A loan offer in process

Having a credible social media account is very important in this time and age because the world is right in the heart of the Internet era. A lot of people are being assessed through social media.

The type of words and pictures you put out there, the pages and groups a person follows are all very important.

But then, imagine when your social reputation can get you a loan from the bank. Cool right? This can be found on Social Lender.

What is “Social Lender” and how does it work?

Social Lender is a lending solution based on social reputation on mobile, online and social media platforms.

Social Lender is designed to bridge the gap of immediate fund access for people with limited access to formal credit. It does not involve social media alone, but also social community.

Below is an example of how social lender works:

From Facebook, quite a number of information is looked into, such as: how long the individual has been on the platform, the people he or she is engaged with, their network, the communities he or she is involved with, friends from school and work, etc.

These are different indicators that can build up a person’s score.

All these are accessed to form what is called a social reputation score. Loans are guaranteed by the user’s social profile and network allowing users to then borrow from banks and other financial institutions based on their social reputation.

If a person’s score does not meet up to the required standard, he or she can boost it by adding more data sources, such as Twitter, LinkedIn accounts, etc. This will help boost their score which is a main asset.

Another good way one can boost his or her reputation score is by adding what is called, Social Referee(s) or Guarantors.

This is someone or a group of people on the platform who can vouch for the individual and take responsibility if he or she does not pay up at the required deadline.

It is also important to note that the maximum amount of money to be loaned out is 100,000 naira and for first time users, the maximum is 10,000 naira.

This transaction can easily be carried out on a mobile phone by logging into www.sociallenderng.com. One can also login from any of our partner’s website, for sterling bank-

www.sterlingbankng.com/sociallender. The USSD code: *348*3# can also be used only on 9mobile network for now. SMS can also be used, by texting ‘social lender and the amount you wish to borrow’ to 30812.

In South Africa, we partner with Amalgamated Banks of South Africa (ABSA), which currently operates as a subsidiary for Barclays Bank.

The mode of operation is slightly different as a person’s social reputation score is given to ABSA and this is used to give credit cards to students.

This is done because students possess little or no credit history and so do not have easy access to credits therefore, their social reputation score is used.

This concept can be used for many other purposes and not limited to the issuing of credits. It can be used for insurance, pension, etc.

A lot of people in Nigeria lack access to formal credit; this is a huge need that has been on for a while hence this platform was created to help provide small scale entrepreneurs with credits. The interest rate is 5% to 15% depending on a lot of factors.

More data sources are added to the platform every day. Last year, a mobile app that could be downloaded was launched.
This mobile app allows you share data, such as phone numbers, calendars, SMS with Social lender, which can be summed up to build a person’s social reputation score.

Your reputation and integrity are everything. Credibility can only be built overtime and it is built from the history of a person’s words and actions.

Build your credibility so you won’t have to say the same thing twice before someone believes it. Do not live in doubt and ignorance.
