“What differences? Like I said earlier I don’t have anything to say to you”. I replied. ”You are messing with him and you know it. If you truly care about him you’d leave him alone”. She said.

Girl talk

After Tunji sent me a message requesting for us to talk, I responded and we agreed to meet the next day at a little café not too far from my parent’s house. I was nervous and excited, what if this was it? What if this was him trying to tell me he had seen the light? What if I left the café engaged to him once again?

I had told my friend Tosin about our “meeting” and she had insisted I wear something nice. I wore a silk shift dress, heels and way more perfume than necessary. I was determined to enjoy the moment and if there was another grand proposal I wanted to make sure I looked perfect in the pictures.

When I arrived at the café, I saw Tunji’s Mercedes in the parking lot and I was relived he was already waiting, it was better to have him waiting so I could make a grand entrance. However, when I waltzed into the café, I was in no way prepared for what I saw. Seated at the table right across the room was Alicia… Tunji’s girlfriend. I was prepared for anything but this. I considered going right back out of the café and pretending like I had never turned up but she spotted me and gave me a look that revealed she knew exactly what I was thinking…I conceded and walked towards her.

“Adesewa, I know this is a bit awkward and I take responsibility for it. Tunji had nothing to do with it. I took his phone and set up this meeting with you and I drove his car here to make sure you actually came in when you got here”. She explained.

I rolled my eyes and then spoke. “I am sure you agree that going through all that trouble was unnecessary. I don’t have anything to say to you.” I said to her with a straight look on my face.

She laughed. “It’s unnecessary yet you’re still here”. She smiled at me and then added “This is not about to turn into a cat fight. It’s just two girls talking. We are both young, beautiful and intelligent women. I don’t ever want what happened at the party yesterday to happen again and so I decided it would be best for us to have a conversation like two adults and resolve our differences. Have a seat Adesewa”.

“What differences? Like I said earlier I don’t have anything to say to you”. I replied. ”You are messing with him and you know it. If you truly care about him you’d leave him alone”. She said.

“Why did you ask me to come here? Tunji is a grown man, no one should be able to “mess with his head”. If he wants to cut me off completely he knows what to do and the fact that he hasn’t done that should be a concern to you and not me. If you came here to warn me, I’m sorry you are barking up the wrong tree, you should be warning him and not me. Have a nice evening”. I said.

With that I walked out and got into my car. My hands were trembling for reasons and I could not explain. My phone started ringing and to my greatest surprise it was the one person I thought I would never hear from again…. Chigozie!
