Women from all walks of life defied the rains last Saturday, as they trooped into the MUSON Center, Onikan, for the annual Dabira Women’s Conference, a conference targeted at equipping and encouraging women to be enterprising, successful, purposeful and influential.

The annual conference, which celebrated a decade of empowering women and impacting the communities, hosted renowned female speakers both internationally and locally.

With the theme: ‘’The Power of a Women, Power Your Potentials,’’ the event featured inspirational and educative talks with panelists sharing their different life-changing experiences to the attendees ranging from emotional pains, cancer survivors, depression, and suicidal.

Highlighting some crucial points in life, one of the panelists, Adenike Oyetunde, On Air Personality and lawyer, who’s life’s journey literally changed her trajectory, spoke on her inspiring story on surviving cancer of the bone and living as an amputee.

She recalled: “While in the University, I slipped and landed on my right knee, this caused an incessant pain that would not go away. Later, I was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma (a malignant bone tumor) and I was told I was going to have to amputate my right leg in order to save my life. I was in my second year at the University and I was going to have to take off my leg. It took me over about six months of excruciating pains, agony and other medical opinion before I finally agreed to the initial diagnosis, I couldn’t accept the diagnosis. I even tried the trado-medical route. I guess I was in the denial phase at this point, nothing worked. Oyetunde noted: “I met inspiring people along the way and now I am living my life to the fullest. It has been a gratifying and humbling experience, going through all I did and beating cancer has not stopped me from achieving anything.”

Other speakers who shared life experiences on the topic, Living Above Pain, include Jodie Great, songwriter and artiste; Nkechi Harry Ngonadi, Executive Director of NHN Couture; Chioma Onyiuke, leadership and strengths strategy coach, Dr Ada Ezeka, Lilian Adegbola, Inspiring Communicator and Dr. Elishama Ideh Founder of Christ The Ever-Present Ministry, among others.

Founder of Dabira Woman Network, Lydia Hearts Initiative, Lara Odebiyi, urged women to begin to love themselves first and stop finding validation from people in their lives before they begin to see their lives tied around their loved ones.
