Staying fashionable on a budget

It is no secret that the country is going through some tough times presently, a recession, to put it in proper perspective. The truth is that fashion might likely take a back burner for most people as the focus now is more on saving the little we have and spending as less as possible.

However, we cannot help the fact that we have to go out daily and put our best foot forward, recession or not. We have put together the following tips to not only help you dress better for less but to use what you have presently to slay.

Mix and Match
Now is the time to start experimenting as much as possible; don’t be afraid to mix and match prints. Experiment with your style and leave trends behind. Now is not the time to jump on happening trends, go with what you have and mix things up to create different everyday looks.

Fabric Care
Now is the time to watch how you wash your clothes especially clothing items like denim, which has the tendency of stretching and/or fading with constant washing. In a climate like ours, some clothes should be air dried and not under direct sunlight. Also, as much as possible, use fabric conditioners when doing your laundry.

The Little Black Dress (LBD)
If you don’t have a LBD, you need to get one urgently. Every woman needs one, as it can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. It can take you anywhere, from the office to a night out.

Brighten Your Outfit
Incorporate bright colours like orange, green, red and so on as even the most boring outfit can be jazzed up with bright and flashy accessories such as shoes, bag, jewelry, belt or scarves. So, instead of buying new outfits, just learn to work and mix what you have.

Locally Made Goods
If you haven’t been buying made in Nigeria, now is the time to start with this recession and the exchange rate staring you in the face. Many designers in the country are doing great things at reasonable prices now so it would be great and financially sensible to look for one that understands your needs and pockets.

Bargains
If you can still afford to shop outside the country, look out for sales and other bargains. Even here within the country, some designers and store owners do clearance sales and other promotional activities; look out for things like that and save yourself some money. If you cannot afford to shop at all, please do well to mix and match what you have already and wear.
