Imagine seeing a crop top, a dress or a tuxedo you know would look good on you but you can’t wear because chances are high that you might get caught and be used as a #Meme just because you have belly fat.

Belly fat is dangerous and universally unappealing (unless you fall into the category of people who think it’s a sign of good living which is just weird). Bad belly fat, also known as visceral fat, is the most dangerous kind of fat because it wraps itself around your liver, pancreas, liver, heart and muscle around your abdomen over time and weakens them.

Belly fat can be so stubborn to loose and its implications are horrifying: increased risk of cancer, heart attack, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Before you say “I’m slim so I’m saved”, anybody can have belly fat and it could be these simple habits that might be responsible

Not getting quality sleep
You doctor recommends eight hours of quality sleep but you’d rather take a nap or sleep for four hours. Not only do you end up being psychologically stressed, you stand a high chance of suffering from sleep apnea [a sleeping disorder in which breathing is interrupted at regular intervals while sleeping].

Consuming a lot of beer

Bet you have heard the term beer belly. Beer has been linked severally to belly fat and this is because it adds excess calories to your diet. To make matters worse, these calories called empty calories (calories without nutrition).

Worry

Who would have thought that worrying leads to belly fat 75% of the time? When you worry, the body adjusts itself to increase its fat stores in times of extreme hunger as a means of survival. Another problem is you would be so worried about your worries you won’t even realize what it has cost you.

Eating late into the night

A lot of people are guilty of this and it’s mostly not their fault [From coming back late to fighting depression to loss of appetite]. As a result, most people eat heavy in the night without even realizing how many calories that they are consuming. Because you don’t burn it after eating, the body stores and distributes it to different parts of the body thereby leading to body and belly fat.

Excessive consumption of carbs

Bread, white rice, pasta, candy, pounded yam, cassava are carbs which are difficult to ignore when they are easily accessible and available especially if you are an African. But if you think of how carbs stimulate insulin which helps to store fat in your body, you would totally avoid it if you can.
