Breakfast they say is the most important meal of the day. It definitely wasn’t out of place when I decided Micos House of Chicken and Waffles at No 1 Arobieke street by Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1. It seemed like a good idea to start my Wednesday morning. Entering the cute space, I was of the impression that few people agree with the idea of eating out for breakfast as it was empty when I walked in. It could also be because of the time and day, they had a lot of takeout orders as opposed to customers who eat in.

I didn’t enjoy sitting in this space as the ambience felt a little bit odd. I expected a space that brightens up your day, seeing as their specialty is breakfast. A touch of colour and inspiring designs will give this space a much-needed face-lift as the vibe was gloomy.

Chicken and Waffles

Looking at the menu, you are spoilt for choice on what you’d like to order so I settled for their specialty – Mico’s Special. The meal consists of one large waffle and two pieces of chicken (I had grilled over fried) and a choice of drink. Pretty much not a bad deal considering the size of the meal. Seeing as I came on a Wednesday which they tagged “Waffle Wednesday” meant I got a mini waffle on the house. The meal was said to be ready in an estimated 10 minutes and they delivered on the time.

I had my meal to go and enjoyed digging into my waffle first. The mini waffle was flat and tasted good with the syrup. The actual waffle was fluffy and really filling. I’m not big on having chicken with anything for breakfast, so I was skeptical of the combination.  My first bite of the grilled chicken filled me with emotions of pleasure, it was spicy, and just the way I liked it. But, this feeling only lasted for 10 seconds.

It seems that all the attention to the spices for the chicken was on the outside. As I dug deeper into the chicken, it tasted really bland and seemed a little bit raw which I wasn’t happy with at all.

Will I be going back to Micos? The jury is still out on this one.
