First aid saves lives. But it is important that the first aider has the relevant skills to tackle the emergency. Emergencies are not planned, they suddenly occur.
In order to skillfully administer first aider, there are certain necessary supplies that must be available. The first aid kit is a box where medical supplies required for giving first aid is kept. This should be in the home or office. Some people keep it in their car as well.

Here are basic items that should be in a first aid box:
- Plasters in different sizes and shapes
- Small, medium and large sterile gauze dressings
- Sterile eye dressings
- Crêpe rolled bandages
- Safety pins
- Disposable sterile gloves
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Alcohol-free cleansing wipes
- Sticky tape
- Digital thermometer
- Skin rash cream, such as hydrocortisone
- Cream or spray to relieve insect bites and stings
- Antiseptic cream
- Painkillers such as paracetamol or Ibuprofen [Also add paracetamol for children]
- Over the counter cough medicine
- Antihistamine tablets
- Distilled water for cleaning wounds
- Eyewash
