Maria Borges Is Victoria’s Secrets First Model To Rock A TWA

We know how long the Victoria Secret show has been running and one thing that has never been noticed is the fact that not one of the models has rocked a TWA (teeny weeny afro). In twenty years of the show, Angolan model Maria Borges is the first girl to rock her TWA on the runway. Talk about making history.

She told Essence magazine ‘ I told my agent I wanted to walk in the Victoria Secret show with my natural hair. I was nervous, but I had ti do it. When they said ‘yes’ I didn’t expect it, but I was so happy‘

Ajuma Nasenyana in 2006 appeared on the runway with her shaved head and it wasn’t until the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Show that we got to see a black model strut her stuff in her natural essence.

The world is embracing diversity. Africa for one, has seen the uproar with so many women transitioning back to their natural hair. During the Spring/Summer 2016 Fashion Week shows, a whole lot of models were spotted rocking their natural hair, models like Lineisy Montero, Proenza Schouler, Suno but to mention a few.
