Octavia Spencer Breaks Records With Oscar Nomination
In light of the Oscar nominations announcement on Tuesday, Octavia Spencer is blazing a trail for black women around the world by getting her third Oscar nod.
She was nominated for her supporting role in Guillermo del Toro’s fantastical romance The Shape of Water, making her the first black actress to get two nominations after an Oscar win.
Spencer won Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Help in 2011. Last year, she got another nomination for her supporting role in Hidden Figures and this year she’s on the list yet again for The Shape Of Water.
This makes her the first black actress to receive Oscar nominations in back-to-back years amd with three nominations, she has become the most nominated black woman in the Academy Awards history alongside Viola Davis.
