Sylvia is a Nollywood fantasy film which tells an interesting tale of love, lust, betrayal and obsession. Starring Zainab Balogun (as Sylvia) and Chris Attoh (as Richard Okezie), the story sees complications arise when a man decides to leave his ‘spiritual’ lover for an actual wife.

The film explores the cause and effect of relationships, mental health and the real versus the surreal world, as it tells the story of Richard, who has always existed between the real world and a fantasy world, which is home to his friend and lover Sylvia.

Richard decides to leave Sylvia, his lifelong imaginary friend and lover for Gbemi, an actual human being. Filled with passion and love, the two devotees embark on a journey of commitment.

Time and life go on, leaving Richard in a dicey situation. He is then faced with the decision on a future and full commitment, either to the real world with its demands, or the surreal world that houses an increasingly frustrated Sylvia.

Events unfold leading Richard on a downward spiral. The film ends shockingly and unforgettably.

Written by Vanessa Kanu and directed by Daniel Oriahi, the film also stars Ini Dima Okojie, Udoka Oyeka, Lolo 1, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Lord Frank and Bolaji Ogunmola among others.

Sylvia is the first feature film for AMVCA recipient TRINO. It was screened for the first time at the annual film festival, Nollywood Week Paris, organised by Okada Media. The festival showcases the best of the Nigerian film industry and sees the congregation of top filmmakers, journalists and personalities from Nigeria, France and the rest of the world.

Sylvia starts showing in cinemas nationwide from today, so be sure to check it out and let us know what you think about it.
