Black Bell Lekki Review: More Sighs Than Bells

By Chidera Muoka 11 December 2017   |   9:30 am

The outburst of restaurants on Admiralty Way at the infamous Lekki Phase One could immediately translate to being spoilt for choice when it comes to fine dining but I believe that’s not the case for all.

Black Bell

If you pass this road frequently, you should know the beautiful Black Bell restaurant located at Block 2, Plot 69A on Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase One. Well, I tried dining there for the first time and it was more sighs than bells.

I ordered the spaghetti Bolognese from the restaurant upstairs (they have one upstairs and another downstairs) and to say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. The pasta came and I was very excited but after my first taste of the meal, my excitement level dropped. I had requested for an extra spicy meal but it lacked spice, not to talk of the ‘extra’ spice. The pasta tasted undercooked and it was hard finishing the meal, which I didn’t.

I ordered a mocktail called Wonder Woman to go with the meal and this was the highlight of my experience at the restaurant although the drink menu and the drink came pretty late. I was told by the waiter that it was a mix of apple juice, Fanta, syrup and special ingredient they used for their Chapman. It was the perfect drink for a sunny day in Lagos.

The service was decent at the beginning, we were given an attentive waiter for about 10 minutes, but that changed as he was up and about. With a minimum of three waiters by the bar, my order was shared with two waiters and the drink taken by another.

The ambience at Black Bell is its only selling point. The exterior has the signature greenery, stepping into the restaurant they maintain the black mysterious decor which is elevated with the introduction of mirrors at strategic places.

Overall, I’d definitely go to Black Bell for drinks but not for dinner or lunch. And if I’m in the spirit of giving second chances, I’d order from the restaurant downstairs.
