Smoothie is that creamy concoction that blends multiple flavours into one complex taste!

Consistency is an issue many battle with in making a hearty Smoothie. You might not enjoy the taste of your smoothies until you’ve learnt ways to make it creamier and flavourful. Not so thick that you need to eat it with a spoon but not very watery all the same. I always tell myself that i want more out of my smoothie experience than feeling like I’m just drinking a sweetened juice. If I wanted a mere juice, I know where to get one depending on the fruit juice type I want. This makes me to explore varieties in search for what works and all.

How can you achieve consistency in your smoothie experience? There a few food items I love using most, usually i use banana, if I want a bit of naturally sweetened flavour while achieving thickness all the same. I also use yogurt, or avocado. For instance, avocado has a very mild flavour and adds texture to your smoothie and you can barely taste it. It just holds the flavours together with so much consistency. You should use that often, plus it makes for a balanced diet for the mornings you can’t handle breakfast, just get it blended and done a night before the morning you are to head out! The same applies to yogurt if you want to define the taste a bit.

Again, sometimes adding just a little bit of sweetness can bring the flavours of your smoothie together. You can use honey, figs, maple syrup, dates, vanilla paste, molasses and fruit jams as items to sweeten your smoothies with.

To make the Hearty Smoothie, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 banana (peeled)
  • I avocado (peeled and seed removed)Hearty Smoothie
  • 1 apple (cored and sliced)
  • 3 dates (pitted)
  • 1 TBSP nut/seed butter (peanut, almond or sunflower)
  • 2 TBSP ground flaxseed meal
  • 1/2 cup dry oats
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 cup water

Direction

Blend it all up, add some ice if you want. Enjoy this thick and hearty smoothie. It should fill you up for a while!

To blend well-start with liquids, then greens, then frozen fruit-after that, add whatever’s making your smoothie creamy — like banana, avocado or yogurt. And by the way, oats are better when soaked in water overnight, it also helps to create a nice thick consistency. Adding it raw wouldn’t always come as smooth and as tasty as I would love it to be, but that is dependent on choice.
