Nigerians were all about historic moves this week. With a massive presence in technology, music, religious ministry, here is a rundown of what happened in the week:

Niniola has become the first Nigerian female artiste to have over one million monthly listeners on Spotify. According to the music streaming website, it has over 1,004,093 listens. The AfroHouse singer released her debut album This Is Me in November 2017 to critical acclaim, with Maradona leading the trend with over 1.7 million streams on Spotify. A few months ago, Grammy-nominated French DJ Snake did a remake of the hit song.

Nigeria for hacking Olympics

A group of Nigerian cybersecurity hackers, NaijaSecForce, have emerged eighth in the nomination rounds of the Global Cyberlympics, the world’s hacking Olympics. The 12-hour competition had over 134 teams across the world and saw the Naijacybersec team become the only African team in the top ten categories. Australia has the highest wins with six teams, while Europe has two wins including first place. The team also clinched the African regional winners’ title after beating 24 teams that competed in Africa. Is the government thinking what we are thinking?

Blankson the “hero”

A Nigerian contractor, Joseph Blankson, lost his life trying to save his co-passengers from a boat mishap. The boat was carrying 24 people before it hit an object. Rivers State police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni, shared that the 38-year-old had rescued 13 people and was trying to rescue the 14th person before he died from exhaustion. The Senate president, Saraki, former vice president Atiku and the government of Rivers State are among the Nigerians who have sympathised with the family of the deceased.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has ordained Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu. Her ordination took place at the Old Arena of RCCG, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway where the church is having its 66th annual convention themed “Dominion”. We hope the pastor makes it her national assignment to intercede for the nation.
