In the past couple of weeks, the internet and social media went wild because Wizkid missed his Coachella debut for two weekends in a row. Since that time, a lot of theories have been created to figure out why the Afropop star failed to attend one of the biggest festivals in the world. Whatever the reason(s) may be, here are five Nigerian musicians that should be able to deliver a stellar performance at Coachella.

TuBaba

It’s impossible to talk about the Nigerian music scene without speaking about Innocent Ujah Idibia. Formerly known as TuFace Idibia, he started off as a member of the Plantashun Boiz before breaking out as a solo artist. Since that time he has released five albums and has won numerous awards in the Nigerian and international scene. With numerous international collaborations to his name, TuBaba has a perfect balance of star power and talent to own the Coachella stage.

Brymo

Olawale Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo, has been making music professionally for a very long time. With six albums under his belt, including the recently released Osó, Brymo has created music in a diversity of genres that include afrobeat, alternative, soul, RnB and jazz. Often releasing songs with a social message, he has sold out multiple shows with a fusion of sounds deeply in his Yoruba roots. Brymo is an incredible live performer and is arguably one of the biggest artists in the Nigerian underground scene.

Bez

Nigerian alternative soul artist and multi-instrumentalist Emmanuel Bez Idakula aka Bez has distinguished himself from the minute his first single hit the airwaves. Stupid Song was proof that an artist could make unconventional music that still appealed to a wide variety of audiences and Bez didn’t stop there. With two brilliant albums to his name, Bez dazzles his fans with eclectic live performances and beautiful guitar play every time he gets on a stage.

Adekunle Gold

Omoba Adekunle Kosoko, known as Adekunle Gold, has been making music underground for a couple of years, but it was not until 2014 when he released his hit single Sade that he rose to fame. Since that time, the YBNL artist has dropped hit after hit leading to his groundbreaking 2016 debut album, Gold. Developing and perfecting his signature AfroJazz sound, Adekunle Gold is one of the best live performers in Nigeria and his unique vibe will be perfect for Coachella.

Bukola Elemide aka Asa came on the Nigerian music scene with a bang through her hit singles Eye Adaba and Fire On The Mountain back in 2007. Later that year, she released her debut album Asa which topped charts in Europe, Asia and Africa. After this, she has released two more albums over the years which have been critically acclaimed around the world. As a student of Jazz, Asa is a brilliant performer who has created her own unique fusion of jazz and pop with African infusions.
