Reveiw: Wande Coal Releases New Song ‘Funkeh’
Praise be to the music gods, the Wande Coal renaissance seems to still be right on track. Since his monster hit, Iskaba jolted the obscenely talented singer back onto our collective radars, he just hasn’t stopped delivering.
While he has dropped a few singles and featured on a number of tracks since then, his newest song Funkeh – which he dropped in celebration of his 32nd birthday – might just be the best thing he’s done since Iskaba.
Ditching the oversaturated “pon pon” sound, Wande Coal relies on his wonderful voice to carry the entire song. Killertunes’ slick production also shines, but this song’s appeal is all thanks to Wande being at the top of his game.
The catchy song is partly inspired by Emmanuel Kellam’s three-year-old viral video, where he pranked his Nigerian father by lying he got his girlfriend pregnant. It resulted in his dad hilariously calling out for his mother, shouting “FUNKE”.
That’s about all the upbeat song borrows from that skit though. It’s a pretty standard love song which finds Wande begging his love interest to introduce him to her parents, so he can properly profess his love for her.
