Uber’s new update has a Trip Tracker attached to its Family Profiles feature. What is the Trip Tracker?

I’ll explain –

When you’ve added someone to your Uber Family Profile, the trip tracker feature notifies you whenever that person requests a ride. Not only that, it also allows you monitor the person’s entire trip on the map – from start to finish. Pretty cool, right? The people over at Uber sure think so.

At Uber, we are constantly looking for new ways to use technology to improve safety for riders and drivers. Trip Tracker uses sophisticated technology to bring you peace of mind while your nearest and dearest ride on Uber. So, the next time one of your family members is headed out – you’ll know when they are on their way, which route they are taking and when they’ve arrived.

Admitedly, this is a really good idea for concerned parents who aren’t exactly sure about letting their children ride alone in a cab. And not just parents, actually. One can never be too safe in the city. Tensions are pretty high and crime is steadily on the rise again. We’ve heard some reports of kidnappings and robbery around Lagos, and frankly it’s very unsettling.

The trip tracker update might have come in the nick of time. Now, people can get in an Uber and be assured that their trips are being monitored not just by the people at HQ, but also by someone who cares for them.

For those who have privacy concerns –

The other great thing about the trip tracker feature is it only works if you request a ride under your family profile. If you’re riding with your personal, business, or any other profile, no one is notified about your movement.
