Friends are highly indispensable! They are the family we can actually choose for ourselves. There is a saying, “There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother?”, but some friends do stick like white on rice.

We all need certain friends for certain reasons. A friend to lean on in tough times, who not only absorbs our tough moments but provides succour. Or one who is brutally honest and tells us the truth of what isn’t working or needs to be fixed in our lives. And even a friend who brings out the best in us by pushing us to the highest limits. The list goes on.

We can relate to having one friend that fits into the different categories below in our friendship squad.

The Comic Friend

One good thing about a friend with a great sense of humour is that they literally seem to have the answers to everything. Even if they aren’t making sense, their humour provides warmth and relief on a hectic day. They are always happy to listen to your problems and rant with you. They always have an advice or a joke to improve your mood. After you speak to them, you feel like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. You both have hyperboles to describe certain plights in your lives and make light jokes out of them to relieve your sadness, albeit temporarily. The ability to make each other laugh helps you both get through difficult times.

The Risk Taker

We all need at least one adventurous friend who nudges us out of our comfort zone. This kind of friend introduces you to new ideas, values or principles you wouldn’t otherwise explore. While they are around they help you become less intimidated and more excited about taking bold steps, and putting our fears aside. They help you map out blue prints to your next level of growth.

The Coach

This is a friend who you look up to and admire. They inspire you, and they encourage you to be the best version of yourself. When you are with them you feel like a better person, and they act like mentors. You hope to follow in their footsteps because they have a successful and happy life. They make you more eager to achieve your goals or at least keep tackling them every day.

The Loyalist

This pal won’t judge you when you have made the worst out of yourself. As a matter of fact he understands your low points and prefers you talk openly to him about them than pretend to be who you are not. We all need a friend who hangs in there even when we’re not at our best. Although, sometimes, it’s not very healthy to have someone who cannot steer us right when we are wrong.

The Lifter

This kind of friend hangs in there come rain or shine. They sacrifice their all (money, time, health and even life) to make you happy even when it puts them in a very tight corner. They are always there to pick you up when you fall. They encourage you and make your challenges or pains seamless. Most people need different types of friends who can support them in different ways but a lifter, is the most unique amongst them.
