Knowing how to fix things around the house always come in handy when there is an emergency, it also saves you money when instead of throwing stuff out, you fix it. This does not imply that you meddle with extreme situations like electricity or fire.

That said, here are some solutions to minor domestic problems.

For squeaky door hinges
Spray a little engine oil or red oil onto the hinges, moving the door back and forth to work in the lubricant. After a few minutes, the squeaky sound will definitely stop.

For squeaky floors
This occurs when a tile is becoming loose, you might need to call an expert to fix it but in the meantime, pour talcum powder onto the tile and sweep the powder underneath the tile; this will definitely stop the squeaking for a while.

For dusty chandelier

Be sure the chandelier is not hot or plugged into an electric circuit before cleaning. With two cotton gloves, a dry one and a dampened one, clean the bulbs one by one, first with the dampened one and then with the dry one.

For stained tub
Combine equal amounts of baking soda with enough lemon juice to make a paste. Rub the mixture into the stain with your fingers or a soft cloth. Let sit for a half hour, and then rinse well with water.

For pressed-in cushions
This happens after a few weeks or months of using your bed or pillow, it begins to sink in. It sinks in due to accumulated moisture from heat and air debris. When this happens all you need do is to take out the foam in the sun for a few hours while turning the foam to ensure that the sun reaches all part of the foam.
