Antarctica is the last untouched continent in the world, making it a desirable destination for the valiant traveller. It has no indigenous people, no politics and no economy, yet it covers almost 10 percent of the earth’s surface — making it about 1.5 (one and a half) the size of the United States.

It is the coolest, windiest driest and the most desolate landscape on the planet with few permanent residents like Penguin and Seals. This frosty continent appears locked in a perpetual ice age; a colloquial cloak of ice, covers almost every inch of land and in some places the ice is thick and heavy that it depresses the earth’s crust almost half a mile. Some people call; “earth’s freezer” but scientists call it “Antarctica -The Ice”.

The Secret Of Antarctica

Most people don’t think if anything happens to the Antarctica that it will affect them. Antarctica is a home to 90% of all of the ice in the world. Rob Deconto; a Climate Modeler, at UMass reveals that any change in the Antarctica; for instance; if it melts, sea levels will rise in more than a hundred and fifty feat; flooding coast of cities, displacing more than a hundred of millions of people. Not just that, properties will be lost including lives—not to mention, it is much easy for those living near river areas.

The Secret Of Antarctica

In 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton, a romantic adventurer and his crew set sail aboard Endurance on a quest to be the first to cross the southernmost continent over land. They abandoned their quest when the ship was trapped in sea ice, but incredibly thanks to Shackleton’s courage and determination, all crew members survived, though his ship, the Endurance, never reached Antarctica.

The Secret Of Antarctica

Overwhelming and awe-inspiring, Antarctica has a raw-emotional effect on visitors that few destinations match. It is often described as “visiting another planet.” Still, only 35,000 tourists visit here each year — a small number compared to about a million cruises recorded for other destinations round the world.

As far as adventure goes, Antarctica doesn’t get much better than snowy. It’s one of the least-traveled destinations in the world, and as such it’s been barely touched by human life. Antarctica is the only continent without significant plant life, but sprawling glaciers, ice-capped mountains and other jaw-dropping scenery makes this one of Earth’s last remote spectacles.
