 Augrabies Falls

The Augrabies falls national park covers 60 000 ha of arid rocky desert landscape. The 56 m high augrabies falls is the sixth largest waterfall in the world when South Africa’s largest river, the orange is in flood. The most significant of these surprises is the orange rivers flowing from the Lesotho Highlands to the Atlantic where it marks South Africa’s border with Namibia. The word augrabies derives from the Khoi meaning ‘place of great noise’. it has awesome viewpoints such as Ararat and Oranjekom on the 18 km Orange River Gorge and the “Swartrante” (Black hills) from where one has a great view of this arid rocky desert landscape.

Although Augrabies is essentially a scenic park, game such as giraffe, springbok, gemsbok, eland, kudu, red hartebeest, Hartman’s zebra and klipspringer survive in this unique riverine ecosystem. Fish eagles and black eagles are common residents.

Cango Cave

The cango caves is a cultural and natural landmark in South Africa. It is situated in the Swartberg Mountains, 30 kilometers north of Oudtshoorn. The 20 million year old caves consist of a progression of hidden chambers, cut deeply into the solid limestone rock layer. it is frequently described as one of the great natural wonders of the world; it is the biggest show cave system in Africa. It is South Africa’s oldest tourist attraction, the formations are unique: they would not have normally formed in this area and are a result of faulting.

Bloukrans Bungee

The bloukrans bungy is the world’s highest commercial bungy bridge. It is also the highest commercial natural bungy jump in the world. Standing 708 feet above the floor of the gorge, it is part of one of only three highways in the world to have a bridge exceeding 500 feet. Take a bungee jump or ride the Flying Fox cable slide across the gorge. For those who prefer keeping their feet on the ground, a gentle walk along the catwalk to the top of the arch is probably a better option.
