Apple iPhone 8 And 8 Plus Are Here

Apple iPhones 8 and 8 Plus probably feel like the smaller unidentical twins trying to shine in the shadow of their big brother, iPhone X.

The two iPhones 8 and 8 Plus went up for sale today, starting in Australia. However, the queues to enter the Apple stores were much shorter. Normally, where a queue would bend at the end of the street with hundreds of people waiting in line for the launch, it had fewer than 30 people standing on it just before the store opened.

The same happened in Asia and Europe, where only a few people gathered. A store in Glasgow even had only two teenagers waiting in line when the doors opened, according to The Guardian.

This low turnout is most likely because most people are waiting for the big brother, iPhone X, to be released in November. Why buy the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus when a better one will be up for sale in just over a month (or whenever Apple is ready to deliver the X)?

Last year, the iPhone 7 generated smaller queues, but that was because Apple encouraged online buying of products that were shipped on the day of the release. This eased the stress of queuing up overnight at the doors of stores.

The poor reviews of the iPhone 8, however, may also have been the cause of this low turnout, and preorders for the new devices were much lower than previous launches.

Another reason could be that the iPhone 8 is similar in design to previous iPhones, which hasn’t changed since the iPhone 6. Only the iPhone X will break this design as Apple is set to drop the home button for the first time and the fingerprint scanner. It will also feature facial recognition and the screen will cover the whole front of the phone.

The iPhone 8 is for those that want a new iPhone but will not pay $999 for one. But as heavily priced as the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are, some customers will rather wait for the latest and better iPhone to be released.
