It doesn’t matter that Justin Bieber just bought a cool $5 million (N1.8 billion) Ontario 101-acre mansion, the Canadian singer is applying for a US citizenship.

His application comes as no surprise because the singer spends most of his time in the US.

According to TMZ, Bieber has a “deep love for the US and an appreciation for this country.” He reportedly moved to Atlanta at 13 where he attained major musical success. The 24-year-old’s application for US citizenship may also be a way to deepen his bond with fiancée, American-born Hailey Baldwin who lives in New York.

All through summer, the couple was spotted all around the city, making out, attending events together and possibly getting married. People reported that they legally tied the knot in New York City’s courthouse “without listening to anyone.”

To become an American citizen, Bieber will need proof that he has a right to be in the country, to which he already has a green card. He will also need to make a formal request to start the naturalisation process. The FBI will then have a background check done on him. After the fingerprinting process, Bieber will need to appear at an oath ceremony and pledge allegiance to the US.

Once an American citizen, Justin can vote and hold public office, except that of the president or vice president.
