The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to declare a one-day nationwide strike to protest what it called, ‘the current economic hardship’, Nigerians  are been subjected to in the present day administration. This hardship reflects on the ongoing fuel scarcity, government’s insistence to go on with the electricity tariff hike, among other things.

Speaking at the NLC Central Working Committee meeting in Abuja, human rights lawyers, Femi Falana (SAN) said, “We didn’t vote change for agony; we didn’t vote change for tyranny. We fully endorse NLC resolutions for strike.”

NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, while declaring open the union’s central working committee (CWC) meeting on Wednesday said that the present administration has failed on several fronts in his campaign promises to the people.

He said that the government cannot disobey the court order that charged the government to return to the old electricity tariff and not expect opposition from labour.

The Union also disclosed that NLC would kick against all anti-labour laws about to be enacted by Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Meanwhile, Femi Falana while speaking at the same event, supported the planned nationwide protest saying that, “Nigerians did not vote for change to suffer.”
