Shonda Rhimes: Third Black Woman Inducted To The TV Hall Of Fame

Shonda Rhimes, creator of some of our favourite shows, has continued to break barriers, the most recent being her becoming the third black woman to be inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.

On Thursday, Rhimes joined the ranks of Oprah Winfrey and singer Diahann Carroll, who were inducted in 1993 and 2011, respectively.

Rhimes will be inducted formally at a ceremony set to take place on November 15 at the Academy’s Saban Media Center. Other inductees include the original cast of Saturday Night Live, writer and producer John Wells and Joan Rivers.

Rhimes and her production company, Shondaland, have been behind massive television hits Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder, and Private Practice.

In a statement via Deadline, CEO Hayma Washington, chairman and CEO of the Television Academy, said,

“All of these individuals are innovators who have shaped television and left an indelible mark on the medium and our culture. We are honored to welcome the latest group of distinguished individuals and look forward to showcasing their impacts for future generations.”
