10 feared dead in Cross River communal clash
About 10 persons are feared dead in a clash between Usumutong and Ediba communities in Abi local council of Cross River State at the weekend.
A source said the indigenes of Ediba launched the first attack on their Usumutong neighbours during a burial ceremony.
An eyewitness account further said, “the people of Usumutong who were taken unawares are planning a counter-attack from what I am learnt because tomorrow (Monday) is the market day in Ediba. The two communities are brothers and sisters. There is no difference between them and it is surprising why they are killing each other.”
According to the Security Adviser in the state, Mr. Jude Ngaji, “the governor is very worried about this development because efforts have been made to bring peace to the area. We have got respected leaders of both communities and plans were still on to ensure both of them co-exist peacefully.
“We will be very strict this time to check the problem.”
