11-year-old boy hangs self over missing N200

BOY HANDEDAN 11-year-old boy, Master Terkula Botwer, has hung himself after some disagreement with his guardian over a missing N200 in Makurdi, Benue State capital.

The Guardian learnt that before his demise, the deceased was serving as a houseboy to a middle- aged woman identified as Nadoo Hembe at Achusa, a suburb of Makurdi metropolis.

The incident, The Guardian gathered, occurred last Sunday when the guardian to the deceased accused him of stealing her N200 and had asked him to produce the money.

It was learnt that after fruitless efforts to make the boy produce the said missing amount, the guardian threatened the boy that she would send him back to his parents in the village if the N200 was not recovered.

Eyewitnesses further said that the female guardian on that fateful Sunday left for church and on returning, found the lifeless body of the boy dangling on a mango tree close to the back of her house.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Austin Ezeani, who confirmed the incident to The Guardian, said that the guardian, on discovering the dead body hung on the tree, reported to the police at B Division station, in Makurdi.
Ezeani explained that policemen were dispatched to the scene to remove the body and it was taken to the morgue at Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.

He, however, stated that police were investigating the matter, adding that the cause of the boy’s death remained a mystery, which he said the Command was working round the clock to unravel.
