For quick issuance of tax clearance certificates, Abia State Board of Internal Revenue has stopped issuance of the certificates manually with the introduction of Automated Income Tax Clearance Certificates with effect from August, 2017.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman of the ASBIR, Mr. Udochukwu Ogbonna, said the new automated certificate takes less time to prepare, and can be verified online or by SMS.

He urged all taxable adults, corporate bodies and the general public to take note of the innovation and be so guided.

Asked if payment and collection of taxes has improved in the state compared to what it was same period last year, the ASBIR Chairman said there is no significant improvement.

According to him, “taxation is multiple in nature and legal but what is illegal and criminal is double taxation, especially that of personal income tax.”
