Adeparusi, missing journalist found dead in Abuja
A multiple award-winning photojournalist, Yinka Adeparusi, who works with Naij, an online news portal in Nigeria, earlier reported missing in Abuja, has been confirmed dead in an accident.
NAIJ.com confirmed that he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Abuja and died on the spot. Yinka was last seen alive when he stepped out of his apartment at around 1:00p.m. in Kugbo area of Abuja on Sunday, November 13, with a brief ‘I’ll be back’ said to his neighbour.
Friends and colleagues got worried after several calls made to his mobile phone lines did not go through and also he did not make any contact with those close to him or his colleagues in the office.
According to one of his colleagues, who identified himself as Jerry, Yinka’s whereabouts was unknown to both his neighbours and members of staff at Naij. “His two phone lines have also been unreachable and there has been no trace of him at home,” he said.
Jerry had stated that all search efforts had so far yielded no results. He said the matter had been reported to the police and allied security agencies.
Earlier, Yinka’s brother, Emmanuel, disclosed that none of the family members could reach him as at the time of filing this report.
“This is quite unusual because Yinka is a soft-spoken, very professional and clear-headed individual; not the kind of person to wander off. He speaks Yoruba and English quite well and he had a not-too-thick Afro-style hair as at the last time he was seen.”
Yinka is an award-winning photojournalist who graduated from Lagos State University School of Communication, where he bagged double honours in Photojournalism and Cinematography and minor in mass communication. Among other awards, Yinka received the People’s Choice Award for Human Rights Photography in Africa, German Development Media Awards in 2013 and was the winner of the photojournalism award of the 6th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting in 2011.
