Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service on Monday, at about 2:00p.m. rescued one Billiaminu Abdullahi, aged 37, resident of Igando, a Lagos suburb, who fell inside a 150-foot deep well, while working in the well. The victim, a local artisan, was engaged to dig the well and in the process, slipped and fell inside it and got trapped.

Speaking on the incident, the Public Affairs Officer of the Fire Service, Bola Ajao, said officers of the fire service responded to the distress call from the Ikotun Fire Service Station and promptly raced to the scene, meeting the victim battling for life inside the well.

Ajao noted that with the modern equipment available for the service men, they were able to rescue the victim even as it was almost impossible, considering the depth of the well and the trapping of the victim by materials inside the well.

“Our team, led by SF Taiwo got to the scene after the distress call and with the availability of modern equipment and its timely deployment, were able to save the man from the brink of death in a nine-minute operation”, Ajao said.

The fire service with support from men of the Nigerian Police rescued the man. He was taken to the General Hospital, Igando for medical attention. The spokesman enjoined Lagosians to take safety and security very seriously and should not hesitate in making emergency calls to necessary responders for prompt attention, thereby saving lives and loss of properties when emergencies occur.
