Ahmed orders inquiry into cause of Jebba rail accident
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has ordered an immediate investigation into the causes of the rail accident at Jebba, Moro Local Council of the state at the weekend where four persons were reported dead.
Ahmed, who was worried about the accident, pledged government’s supports for the victims and said a panel of the Nigerian Railway Corporation would investigate the immediate and remote causes of the accident.He stated this in Ilorin in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba.
Also, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has commiserated with the families of those who died in the accident.The monarch, who expressed grief over the incident in his condolence message signed yesterday by the National Secretary of Shehu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, stressed that such occurrence demands urgent probe to curb future occurrence.
The emir added that: “I received the railway accident with great shock and sadness. It is unfortunate that this accident occurred at a time the Federal Government is looking inward towards repositioning the sector to further guarantee safety and also provide comfort for rail users.
“There is no doubt that the railway is one of the safest mode of transportation, but the remote and immediate causes of this dastard incidence which has thrown many families into mourning after losing their beloved ones requires adequate attention.”
While urging the Nigeria Railway Corporation authority to reassure passengers of its commitment to their lives and property, the emir cautioned officials of the corporation to be vigilant and be abreast with traffic rules as well as railway signals.
He also urged residents and motorists in Ilorin and Kwara State at large to desist from crossing the rail line carelessly to avoid further loss of lives.
