Former National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Kayode Ajulo, has charged the newly installed Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Aare Gani Adams to work for the progress and greatness of Nigeria.

Speaking at the official installation of Gani Adams as the 15th Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Ajulo enjoined him to use his office, not only for the advancement of the Yoruba nation, but to also rise above primordial sentiments and see the entire country as his constituency.

His words: “Although it’s believed that the office of Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland is an ethnic office, yet by virtue of its very consequential standing and positioning in the Yoruba configuration and considering too the fact that Yoruba is a major stakeholder in Nigeria, the Aare is a national figure who must work to ensure that the nation prospers.

“While he must work for the progress of the Yoruba people, he must also not loose sight of his roles as a national figure.”

Ajulo, who also spoke on the Benue and Fulani herdsmen killings, said as things stand, the imperative of invocation of self-defence and codification of community policing appears inevitable.

He, therefore, urged the Federal Government to intervene decisively, adding: “What Nigeria has become in relation to the security of lives and property is highly regrettable.

“The renewed Fulani herdsmen killings across the country must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Nigerians have had their immutable right to life disrupted at the whim of killers who place premium on cattle over human life.”
